New Delhi : The Indian Council of Medical Research(ICMR) has, reportedly, directed all private laboratories across the country to not cost more than Rs.4500 for coronavirus test. Otherwise, the Council will take recourse of legal action, a release stated. Fixing Rs. 4500 for per suspected coronavirus patient's test the Cental government body has said, “In order to increase the number of coronavirus testing laboratories we have allowed the private laboratories to perform sample testing of the suspected COVID-19 patients. However, we directed these laboratories to not take more than Rs.4500 as fees for testing sample of suspected coronavirus patient. We will take legal action in case anyone flouts our guidelines or the rules.” The ICMR said that India is currently passing through a national emergency like situation due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. Hence, the Council acted promptly and issued guidelines to the private laboratories, permitting the latter to perform a coronavirus test. “ The National Task Force has recommended that no private laboratory should cost more than 4500 per test. This would include Rs. 1500 as fees of the screening test for suspected case and an additional Rs. 3000 for the confirmation test”, It said.
