New Delhi: A promotional activity of the India International Science Festival (IISF), VigyanYatra vans were flagged off ahead of the science festival on Monday. The mobile science exhibition vans were flagged off from many cities of the country with the vision to promote scientific temper and culture of science among the people.

These vans are viewed by the students of schools, which helps in creating interest in science and also, spreads awareness about IISF. The sixth edition of IISF will be organised virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The exhibition will be organised in 30 locations across the country. The exhibition will see the felicitation of eminent science communicators, teachers, innovators, research scholas, and students.

Vigyan Yatra was organised by Indian Association of the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata. The Director of IACS, Prof. Santanu Bhattacharya inaugurated the programme. Chief Guest Prof. M.M. Sharma spoke about the importance of IISF and Vigyan Yatra.

The Director-General of CSIR, Dr Sekhar C. Mande said that IISF will impact every segment of the society.

CSIR-Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research (CIMFR), Dhanbad too organised Vigyan Yatra programme on YouTube. In another programme, organised by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa, the director of NIO, Prof. Sunil Kumar Singh gave the welcome address.

IISF organises events like Curtain Raiser, Vigyan Yatra and several Outreach programmes, before the main event. The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal (Manipur), organised the Curtain Raiser cum, Vigyan Yatra events. The Director of IBSD, Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee welcomed all the guests and gave a brief speech about the India International Science Festival 2020.

IISF will be organised from December 22-25. CSIR is the Coordinating Organisation while New Delhi's CSIR-NISTADS is the Nodal Institution for this event.

The other speakers who delivered speeches on Vigyan Yatra events are Dr Goutam Sutradhar, Director, National Institute of Technology, Imphal(Manipur); Dr Arun Bandyopadhyay, Director, CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Kolkata; Dr Arun Kumar Sarma, Director General, North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR), Shillong (Meghalaya) and a few others.
