NEW DELHI: The Government of India after a long break of COVID-19 has now decided to start granting tourist visas to people from Bangladesh and other countries from 15 November as announced by Vikram K Doraiswami, Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, Bangladesh.
According to sources the neighbouring country Bangladesh is going to release the visas with the validity of 120 days i.e. 4 months said by Indian Envoy on Tuesday 9 November while travelling to India through the check-post of Akhaura in Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh.
Vikram K Doraiswami added that 120 days single entry visa will be issued allowing visitors to stay for a time period of not more than 30 days and they can travel only by air for now. He said that the tourist visas to visitors for travelling by rail and road will be soon made available when the covid situation gets more improved.
During the conversation with the reporters along with Vikram K Doraiswami other officials present were Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Akhaura police station, and Romana Akter, Officer of Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi.
On Tuesday Doraiswami also discussed various bilateral issues related to the two countries and also about the issue of communal clash in Bangladesh. He spoke about Bangladesh-India relations which have now improved and praised the government of Bangladesh for the measures taken to maintain communal harmony in the country.
Doraiswamialso shared the information of the ongoing work along the Akhaura-Agartala railway which is about to complete he said that an inspection team will be sent over there. After his interaction with the reporters, Doraiswami then left for India by the land port and is expected to return to Bangladesh on 13 November.
India had earlier paused the issue of visas to foreigners in any category because of the rise in global pandemic COVID-19. On 15 October has resumed granting tourist visas to visitors entering India via chartered flights and travellers from Bangladesh have been able to fly to the country only on scheduled air bubble flights.
