Indian Railways' Issues Latest COVID-19 Guidelines

New Delhi: As the COVID 19 cases seem to be skyrocketing and spiraling out of control with every passing day, it has become for important than ever before to follow necessary guidelines to ensure your safety as well as the safety of others around you. If you intend to use the Indian Railway Service in the future to travel, there are a few guidelines listed by the Indian Railways' that you must be aware of.

Lately, Suneet Sharma, the chairman of the Railway Board stated that it is not necessary to bring along a COVID 19 negative certificate in order to travel by train. However, every passenger has to follow the latest guidelines and protocols issued by the center and the state governments. 

Keeping in mind the recent massive spike in coronavirus cases, the Indian Railway has stopped serving cooked food. Instead, cooked food is being replaced by ready-to-eat (RTE) meals in the trains. 

The items required to protect you from COVID 19 such as masks, sanitizers, hand gloves, and takeaway bedroll kits/items have been made available for sale in the various stalls in the railway stations. 

The Railway Board Chairman Suneet Sharma has assured the passengers that there will be no scarcity of trains and that the railway services will resume on short notice. 

"There is no plan to curtail or stop train services. We will run as many services as required. There is no cause for alarm. We can run trains immediately on demand if there is any rush. This rush is normal during the summer season and we have already announced trains to clear the rush," Suneet Sharma told the PTI. 

On April 9, the Railway Board said that they are presently running a total of 1,402 special train services on an average daily. A total of 5381 Suburban train services and 830 Passenger train services are also in operation. The Railway Board also stated that 28 special trains being operated as clones of highly patronized trains. 

Meanwhile, India has reported 1,61,736 new COVID 19 cases as of Tuesday, pushing India's tally of active caseload to 1,36,89,453 according to the data released by the Union Ministry of Health. The total cases of death reported in the last 24 hours stand to be 879, taking the total death toll to 1,71,058. The total number of active cases has been in an upwards spiral for the 34th consecutive day tallying up to 12,64,698.
