New Delhi: The Indian Railways have been considering resuming the catering services and other passenger amenities in trains after India records a continuous dip in the number of COVID-19 cases.
According to reports, the decision regarding the same will be taken next week in a meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav.
The matter has been taken up after taking into consideration the grievances of the passengers. The Indian Railways is also looking forward to resuming providing other basic amenities such as bedrolls and blankets.
The Indian Railways had suspended its E-catering services in March 2020 after the COVID-19 pandemic took over the country.
In lieu of pantry services, the service of the RailRestro website was provided to passengers who wanted to order food while taking a train journey. The passengers could directly order from the website and the service was available in almost all the trains under Indian Railways.
The RailRestro website is an IRCTC-authorized e-catering wing that had received confirmation to resume services from the Ministry of Railways in January.
The Ministry of Railways granted permission to RailRestro to operate provided strict COVID-19 guidelines were adhered to. This included thermal scanning of the staff, sanitization of the kitchen, proper use of face masks and hand gloves by the staff and more.
