NEW DELHI: On 21st of January, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) formed a team of seven member to scrutinise the allegations of sexual assault and harassment against the president of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brij Bhusan Sharan Singh by wrestlers. 

The committee comprises of evergreen boxer Mary Kom, wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt, archer Dola Banerjee, Sahdev Yadav, the president of Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWLF) and few others. The team was concluded in the immediate executive council meeting on 20th of January, Friday.

The meeting was attended by Abhinav Bindra, Yogeshwar and IOA president PT Usha along with joint secretary Kalyan Chaubey. The meeting started at 5:45 pm in the evening and continued till 7:30 pm.

The discussion revolved around complaints put forward through a letter by five athletes including, Sakshi Malik, Ravi Dahlya, Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Deepak Punia. A thorough exchange of views and suggestions regarding the letter was done during the meeting which also included few special guests.

The majority of individuals decided to not get affected by media trials, stated an IOA statement. The process began after the angry wrestlers reached out to the IOA, appealing for a team to initiate probe against the allegations against Singh.

Meanwhile, IOA president PT Usha claimed that, justice will be served through thorough investigation of the matter. The ace wrestlers have claimed mismanagement of the federation. Furthermore, they have demanded a restructuring of the federation.

However, WFI president, Brij Bhushan Saran has denied all allegations and asserted that he bring to light the political conspiracy behind the allegations. The letter also mentioned that Olympian Vinesh Phogat was mentally harassed by the WFI president after she missed out on an Olympic medal in Tokyo.
