It is always special to be in Assam: PM Modi ahead of his visit to the state

New Delhi: The two eastern states of Assam and West Bengal is set to witness another visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where he is expected to launch a slew of projects on February 22.

This will be the third visit of PM Modi to the poll bound states who is leaving no stone unturned to retain BJPs power in Assam, whilst trying to gain a majority in Bengal.

During his third visit to Assam, the PM will dedicate to the nation INDMAX Unit at Indian Oil's Bongaigaon Refinery, Oil India Limited's Secondary Tank Farm at Madhuban, Dibrugarh and a Gas Compressor Station at Hebeda Village, Makum, Tinsukia.

The Dhemaji Engineering College will be inaugurated by the PM, who will later lay the foundation stone for Sualkuchi Engineering College in the state. The projects have been undertaken under the PMs vision of Purvodaya to drive Eastern India's socio-economic growth.

In Bengal, the prime minister will inaugurate the extension of the metro railway from Noapara to Dakshineswar, and flag off the first service on this stretch.

As informed by the PMO this 4.1-km extension has been constructed at a cost of Rs 464 crore and is fully funded by the central government.

Modi will also inaugurate a third line between Kalaikunda and Jhargram over a stretch of 30 km of the 132-km-long Kharagpur-Adityapur third line project of south eastern railway, which was sanctioned with an estimated cost of Rs 1,312 crore.

The increased importance of the two eastern states is well demonstrated in the Union Budget followed by the frequent visits of top-notch politicians just ahead of the Assembly elections.

From highways, universities, hospitals, bridges, industries the saffron party is trying to woo voters in every possible way. However, the election this year is going to be crucial after the passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. Even though the BJP has been tightlipped about CAA during its election campaign in Assam, the opposition is targeting the BJP with the same. Also, the newly floated regional parties that has been born out of the anti-CAA movement is a reminder what the saffron party has in store.

Moreover, BJP has been trying to make inroads to the Bengal since last nine years. With the hope of making a footprint in the east, BJP is wrestling to oust the incumbent Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee and conquer the state.
