Guwahati: Concerned over the transmission of the deadly coronavirus, the Jharkhand Government has announced huge penalties for violating lockdown rules on Thursday, July 23.
The Jharkhand Cabinet approved Jharkhand Contagious Disease Ordinance under which a penalty up to Rs 1 lakh can be charged from people for not wearing masks.
In IDO 2020, the Jharkhand government also specified that a jail term of up to 2 years can be imposed against violators of COVID-19 preventive measures -- this includes not wearing masks in public places and spitting in public.
Due to surge in Covid-19 cases, the Jharkhand government had declared on Tuesday that all shops would be closed for 3 days every week. Notably, the three-day closure was declared by the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) on Tuesday.
Jharkhand on Wednesday registered 439 fresh cases of COVID-19, while three more people died due to the disease. Jharkhand's death toll stands at 64.
