Kolkata: Renowned Maestro Ustad Rashid Khan Passes Away at 55 After Battling Cancer

KOLKATA: Renowned music maestro Ustad Rashid Khan, aged 55, breathed his last on Tuesday after a prolonged battle with prostate cancer. The revered artist passed away at a Kolkata hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. The deterioration of his condition followed a cerebral attack in December.

Ustad Rashid Khan, belonging to the prestigious Rampur-Sahaswan gharana, was the great-grandson of gharana founder Inayat Hussain Khan. Married to Soma Khan, he played a pivotal role in carrying forward the rich musical legacy of his lineage.

His early musical tutelage was under the guidance of his maternal grand-uncle, Ustad Nissar Hussain Khan (1909-1993), adding a layer of familial tradition to his musical journey.
