Jaipur: At least 100 babies have died in JK Lon Hospital in Kota Rajasthan this month alone. More than 900 babies had died in 2019. The hospital has been plagued by infant deaths for many years now, according to various reports.

Investigations by news organizations have shown that most equipments of the hospital were defunct and that there was an acute shortage of staff.

A team from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) team visited the hospital post which chairperson Priyank Kanoongo had issued a show-cause notice to Vaibhav Galtiya, Secretary of Medical Education Department in Rajasthan government.

Investigating agencies had found broken windows and pigs roaming inside the premises.

CM Ashok Gehlot while speaking to media had said "babies die in a lot of places. Even in Jaipur babies die," The CM was criticized for his remarks on the tragedy with many calling his statements insensitive.

Lok Sabha Speaker and Kota MP Om Birla expressed deep concern over the deaths of 77 babies in the last 24 days and asked the government to look into the matter.
