Madhya Pradesh home minister directs police to examine Netflix's 'A Suitable Boy'

Bhopal: The Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Narottam Mishra has asked the police officials to look into and analyse the content of Netflix's show "A Suitable Boy" by Mira Nair. He directed this order after a scene from the series has created a controversy on social media for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.

Mishra said through a tweet that the show, A Suitable Boy, depicts objectionable scenes, which hurt the sentiments of a particular religion. He has also asked the police officials if legal action can be taken or not against the director and producer of the said miniseries for hurting religious sentiments.

Gaurav Tiwari, a youth BJP leader has submitted a written complaint demanding the police to register an FIR. The leader objected the kissing scene of two characters, one Hindu and the other Muslim, in the temple premises. However, the police have not yet taken any actions.

The leader has also asked people to uninstall Netflix.

A Suitable Boy is a miniseries on Netflix, which is directed by Mira Nair. It is an adaptation of Vikram Seth's novel of the same name.

Madhya Pradesh has been taking a strong stand against 'love jihad.' Earlier last week, Mishra also announced about the 'love jihad' bill, which will include five years of imprisonment for the 'violators.'

Along with Madhya Pradesh, several other BJP-ruled states are considering legal actions against the alleged 'love jihad' cases. The term, 'love jihad' alleges that a Muslim man marries a non-muslim woman only to convert her into Islamism, which the right-wing sees as a threat to the Hindu community.
