MUMBAI: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday warned of strict action against organizations and people who are out to create instability in the state, saying the government will teach them a lesson.
Fadnavis, while speaking to reporters in Pune, also said those involved in instigation of riots in the state will be exposed and the government will not let them succeed in their bad intentions.
It is significant to note that clashes took place between members of two communities in Akola city of Maharashtra on Saturday night over a post on social media. While one person was killed in the ensuing violence, eight other people were injured, including two policemen.
During the month of March, a minimum of 12 persons were injured, including 10 policemen, after a mob comprising of around 500 people started hurling stones and petrol-bombs near the Ram temple in Kiradpura locality of Aurangabad district, when the policemen deployed at the spot tried to control the violent situation arising from a clash between two groups.
Fadnavis said, “It is 100 percent true there are some people and organizations that want the state to remain unstable. But the government will expose them and also teach them a lesson.”
When asked about the incidents of violence recorded at two places in the state recently, he said, “Peace has been restored at the two places where riots took place because police intervened at the right time. An alert mode was maintained by the police to thwart any mischief, while additional security forces were rushed to the spot from other places and deployed there.”
Elaborating on the reasons behind the rise in incidents like the one which took place in Aurangabad, Fadnavis, who is also Maharashtra’s home minister, said, “It is true that some people are deliberately trying to add fuel to the fire and acting from behind. They will not succeed in it.”
“We will expose them and not let them succeed,” he went on to add.
