Kolkata: In
a landslide victory the Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has won
the Bhabanipur assembly constituency defeating BJP's Priyanka Tibrewal by a
record margin of 58,389 votes.
After the victory, CM Banerjee has said that the people of Bhabanipur have given a befitting reply to the conspiracy that was hatched in Nandigram.
"Around 46% of people here (in Bhabanipur) are non-Bengalis. They all have voted for me. People of West Bengal are watching Bhabanipur, which has inspired me, said Mamata.
Notably, the TMC Supremo who lost from the Nandigram constituency in the assembly elections held earlier this year had to win this by-poll and become a member of the Assembly within six months to retain her CM post.
Besides, Bhabanipur, two Assembly seats in Murshidabad district —Samserganj and Jangipur also went to polls on September 30.
The counting for the Bhabanipur constituency held in 21 rounds at the Sakhawat Memorial School of Kolkata. For Samserganj and Jangipur constituency, counting took place in 26 and 24 rounds respectively.
According to details Mamata Banerjee continued to lead after round 17 of counting.
After round 15 of counting of votes, Mamata is leading by 40,000 votes. While TMC supremo has secured 58,503 votes, BJP's Priyanka Tibrewal has managed to bag 18,846 votes.
Earlier, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has signalled her party's aim to oust BJP from power in Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Tripura and Goa. While campaigning for the upcoming by-election in the Bhabanipur constituency in Kolkata she said,'' We will perform 'khela' in Assam, Tripura, Goa and Uttar Pradesh if necessary. We shall do everything possible to oust the BJP from power in the country". She is campaigning for herself to retain her post as Bengal CM as she had lost to BJP's Suvendhu Adhikari in the Nandigram seat during the Bengal elections.
