Noida: The 'Freedom 251' smartphone maker, Mohit Goel is back in news, however, this time he is accused of dry fruits fraud. The Noida-based entrepreneur, and the founder of the company Ringing Bells, Goel is accused of cheating dry fruit traders. The police said that it is a Rs 200 crore fraud.

He along with five others were running a company, called the Dubai Dry fruits and Spices Hub. He was arrested on Sunday from Meghdootam Park, Sector 51 in Noida. The police recovered an Audi, along with 60 Kgs of dry fruits and documents from Goel's place. The Dubai Dry fruits and Spices Hub company was operating from Corenthum, which is a premier office complex in Sector 62. Rent of Rs 3 lakh per month was paid by them for the office spaces.

The police said that till now they had received around 40 written complaints from traders across various states, namely, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Delhi Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and a few other states. Goel, along with four others handled the Dubai Dry fruits and Spices Hub. Among the other employees, three were from outside the country, who were working as receptionists.

The police said that the company used to win the trust of the traders by placing orders and paying on time, however, later, they used to stop making payments. The cheques which were issued by them used to bounce. Goel and the others also used to make dummies as their managing directors and other posts.

The company, however, agreed to buy dry fruits at a higher rate from the traders and sold them at a much higher rate. However, they did not pay their traders for their purchase. Along with Goel, Praveen Singh Nirwan, Sumit Yadav, Om Prakash Jangid and Rajiv Kumar alias Mursafil Lashkar were running the company. A trader from Sector 65, Noida, Rohit Mohan lodged an FIR against the company on December 24, 2020.
