Delhi: People gathered outside Jama Masjid in Delhi to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

After Friday prayers, the gathering of protesters shouted slogans against CAB as well as the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The gathering had the presence of Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, who showed up defying police order that did not earlier give him permission to lead a rally from Jama Masjid to Jantar Mantar.

Slogans of "Inquilab Zindabad" and "Saare Jahan Se Accha" were raised.

The crowd held posters of BR Ambedkar and called the Act unconstitutional.

There have been conflicting reports on whether Azad has been detained or not.

Delhi Police has also employed drones to monitor the situation.

Several metro stations in the capital continue to be shut and parts of the capital continue to be on high alert after incidents of violence, vandalism and scuffle between the police and the protesters were reported during protests.

Protests against CAA and NRC have taken place throughout different states and cities within the country, and Section 144 has been imposed in volatile areas that prohibit the assembly of four or more people in an area where this is imposed.

Earlier a scuffle between police and students of Jamia Millia University had left several injured and had invited the ire of opposition political parties who had accused the police of using excessive force against the students. Similar protests had emerged throughout the country that saw many acts of vandalism and public property.

Many regions within the North-East have been kept outside the purview of the Act through ILP (Inner Line Permit) to ensure rights to the tribes of the region.

Many Chief Ministers of states have expressed their opposition towards CAB and NRC, stating that they are not going to implement them in their states.
