Maqbool Fida Husain ( born-1915, died-2011): The self-taught artist is regarded as the top artist in the country because of his impressive contribution is the sector of art. The Padma Bhushan awardee was born in the year 1915 in Pandharpur of Maharashtra and became a member of the revolutionary Progressive Artists Group. In the year of India's independence, his painting of Sunhera Sansaar was first exhibited at the Bombay Art Society. The irreplaceable M.F Husain is known in the world of modern Indian art for his depiction of imagination without any fear.

Francis Newton Souza (born-1924, died- 2002): Francis Newton Souza is counted as another talented artist who shaped the landscape of Indian art with his depiction of distorted human figures with a sense of eroticism. The artist referred to as 'Indian Picasso' was born in 1924 to a Roam Catholic family in Goa and led the avant-garde movement of India. His art was mainly associated with the duality of sin and sensuality and portrays violent scenes of Christ's execution, mother & child scenes, sensual nudes and bodies without a face.

Syed Haider Raza (born- 1922, died-2016): The portrayal of abstract geometric colorful canvases is something that made the artist Syed Haider much recognized across the country and worldwide. Raza was born in 1922 in Babaria village of Madhya Pradesh from where he started painting various themes and since then his canvases include bright, geometric and colourful patterns. For the outstanding geometric reminiscent of the French landscapes exhibited in India and also in foreign countries, Raza was honoured with Padma Shri in the year 1981.

Vasudeo S Gaitonde (born-1924, died-2001): The auction record-breaking artist from India's Maharashtra was awarded various reputed accolades including the Padma Shri in 1971 for his contribution to Indian art. At present, the artworks of Gaitonde are considered the most expensive in the Indian art market. His paintings with mellow subdued colour composition reflect the spirituality and meditative features of the drawing.

Tyeb Mehta (born-1925, died-2009): Tyeb Mehta was a well-known artist from Gujrat, India who was formerly recognized as a filmmaker. The interest in painting arose in his mind after a visual art experience and then pursued paintings from Mumbai's School of Art. He is known for extensive work in European depiction and also for portraying the Hindu God and Goddess as per the Hindu mythology. The artist has gained international fame by exhibiting his paintings in various places across the world.
