Minor Girls Paraded Naked In Madhya Pradesh To Please Rain Gods

NEW DELHI: In what may be described as a "shocking" incident, six minor girls in Madhya Pradesh were stripped and then paraded naked as part of a ritual in a village so that rainfall happens in that village.

As per reports, the incident took place in a village in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh state. The village has suffering because of drought for many months.

Videos have surfaced on social media showing young girls walking naked in nude condition with a wooden shaft on their shoulders which had a frog tied to it.

As per the local residents, the ritual appeases the rain Gods and result in rainfall in the region.

India's National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has asked for a report from the administration of Damoh district, where the village is located.

The Madhya Pradesh police said there has not been any formal complaint registered in connection with the incident, but they have initiated a probe.

Damoh superintendent of police DR Teniwar told a news agency that stern action would be taken if it is found after interrogation that the girls were forced to parade in nude condition.

In the video, girls, some of whom were as young as five years, can be seen walking together in a procession. A group of women were with the girls singing hymns. The females stopped at every house in the village and the kids collected food grains. The grains were later donated to the community kitchen of a local temple.
