Monkey Kidnapped & Killed Infant in Tamil Nadu

TAMIL NADU: In a tragic incident, a newborn baby died after a set of monkeys allegedly took her away in Thanjavur city of Tamil Nadu.

According to reports, a group of monkeys entered a house located in Mela Alangam (West Rampart) near Thanjavur Palace by removing the tiles of the roof of the house and barged in.

Further, monkeys entered the house and fled with the twin babies resting on a mat on the floor of the house who was born on February 6.

Meanwhile, the baby's twin sister was rescued in the knick of time.

At the time of the incident, the mother of the two children was in a washroom outside the house and the father of the babies went to work.

On hearing the screeching of monkeys when the mother of the twin babies came back running was shocked to see that her children were missing.

The monkeys allegedly, sitting on the roof of the house was holding one of the babies.

However, locals chased the monkey and managed to rescue the baby that had been abandoned on the roof while some of the other locals saw the second baby floating on water on the moat near their house.

Speaking to media, Thanjavur forest ranger G Jothikumar termed the incident to be "rarest of rare" as it is very difficult for the monkey to remove the tiles to enter and come out through the same hole.

Interestingly, as per the doctor's statement, the infant which is under observation in hospital, as well as the baby which died, had no marks of being grabbed by the animal on their bodies.

Earlier in 2018, a similar incident happened in Odisha when a newborn was sleeping under a mosquito net was taken away by a monkey.

After a day-long search for the child, the infant was found dead in a well behind the home, where authorities and the child's parents suspect the animal may have dropped him.
