More than 1000 posts vacant in Allahabad University, cites Ramesh Pokhriyal in parliament

New Delhi: Making a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Union HRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ has cited that the Allahabad University has as many as 1,069 posts vacant.

The Union Minister stated, “The number of vacant teaching and non-teaching posts in the University of Allahabad, a Central University, in Prayagraj is 550 and 519 respectively. He further adds that “The University has already advertised all the vacant teaching posts and 32 non-teaching posts.”

Before this, the University Grants Commission (UGC) had also issued new guidelines according to which all higher education institutions were asked to fill the vacant positions within six months.

The UGC is all prepared with the guidelines for making new recruitment of faculty in Universities, Colleges and Institutions which are Deemed to be Universities. The commission has also outlined the selection procedure of the faculties along with the time frame for which the recruitments will be made. The official notification on this was issued vide its letter dated June 4.

UGC has also sanctioned additional posts for teachers in order to cope up with the teacher-student ration. The commission hopes to lighten the workload of the teachers by the creation of additional posts.

The Allahabad University, or formally called as the University of Allahabad is a vital educational hub of the Allahabad city and in fact in the entire state of Uttar Pradesh. The University was established on 23 September 1887 and with time, has been able to become the fourth oldest modern university in India. it was Lt. Governor of North-Western Provinces, Sir William Muir who had first suggested the need for a central university in Allahabad in the year 1876. As a result, initially, the Muir Central College, came into being and it later led to the present university.

The Allahabad University is also termed as the "Oxford of the East". the University, finally, received the Central University status on 24 June 2005 through the University Allahabad Act 2005 of the Parliament of India.
