NEW DELHI: Heeraben Modi, the mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, passed away today, December 30, at an Ahmedabad hospital. The prime minister stated in a sincere letter, "In Maa, I have always felt that trinity, which encompasses the journey of an ascetic, the symbol of a selfless Karmayogi, and a life committed to ideals."

The prime minister stated in another tweet, "When I saw her on her 100th birthday, she emphasised one thing, which is always remembered, that is work with intellect, live life with purity." Pankaj Modi, the younger brother of PM Modi, and Heeraben, commonly known as Heeraba, used to reside in Raysan village, which is close to Gandhinagar. On most of his trips to Gujarat, the prime minister used to stop by Raysan to spend time with her.

Due to some medical concerns, she was hospitalised on Wednesday morning at the highly specialised UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Center. Her condition was said to be improving on Thursday by hospital administrators. Heeraben would shortly be released, according to a statement from the Gujarat Chief Minister's Office (CMO).

In Gujarat's Vadodara earlier on Thursday, members of the "Dharmayatra Mahasangh" prayed at the temple and chanted the "Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra" for the "well health" of Prime Minister Modi. The Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath temple committee prayed for Heeraben's quick recovery earlier in the day.

Heeraben Modi's passing has already prompted a flood of condolences. Amit Shah, the Union Minister of Housing, Rajnath Singh, the Minister of Defense, and Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, were just a few of the figures who sent their sympathies to PM Modi for his loss.

Following the completion of the final ceremonies for his mother Heeraba in accordance with all customs, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his family departed the Hindu crematorium in Gandhinagar's sector 30. The Vande Bharat Express, which runs between Howrah and New Jalpaiguri, was also scheduled to be inaugurated by PM Modi later today.

Together, these two initiatives would total more than Rs 7,800 crore. He will fly to Gujarat for his mother's funeral first, the PMO stated, and then participate in the programmes via video conferencing.
