MP Woman Hits Jackpot, Finds Diamond In Forest While Collecting Firewood

Bhopal: Fortune knocks once in everyone's life! This time around, it smiled on a poor woman, who accidentally stumbled upon a 4.39 carat diamond when she went to collect firewood in a forest area in Madhya Pradesh's Panna, known for its precious stone mines.

Diamond inspector Anupam Singh said that Genda Bai, a woman from Madhya Pradesh and a resident of Purushottampur, went to the forest to collect firewood on July 27, but accidentally discovered a precious stone.

However, the woman did not keep the diamond with herself and instead deposited it at the diamond office later in the day.

"The woman later reached the Diamond Office and deposited the stone, which is a 4.39 carat diamond," Anupam Singh informed.

As per the private estimates, the diamond may fetch up to Rs 20 lakh at the auction.

The official said that the raw diamond would be auctioned and the proceeds would be given to the woman after the deduction of the government royalty and taxes.

Genda Bai said that she has been selling firewood after collecting it from the forest and also does labour work to make ends meet for her family.

The honest woman said that she has four sons and two daughters, who are of marriageable age.

She added that the money received from the auction will be used for the construction of her house and marriage of her daughters.

Notably, Panna, a district in the impoverished Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh, is famous for its diamond mines.
