MUMBAI: Birthday celebrations took a terrible turn when an 18-year-old boy was fatally killed, allegedly by four of his friends, two of whom were minors, following a disagreement over splitting a Rs 10,000 food bill in the suburban Govandi, according to reports.

The juvenile lads turned themselves in to police and were later imprisoned, while two of the suspects, aged 19 and 22, from Uttar Pradesh, were captured in Gujarat, the official added.

According to reports, a Shivaji Nagar police official said that the victim planned a birthday party on May 31 at a roadside restaurant. The food consumed during the celebration cost approximately Rs 10,000 in total.

As per sources, the tragic incident occurred last week in Govandi, Mumbai's Baiganwadi neighborhood. Shahrukh and Nishar, two of the accused, were taken into custody by police from Ahmedabad, and the other two minors were taken to the juvenile home.

Sabir paid the food bill and returned home after the four accused informed him that they would give him the money later. However, around 2 pm, when Sabir went to the denounced Shahrukh and his 3 different companions to request his cash, they declined and compromised him.

After that, Sabir went on his way and told his other friend about the incident.

Later, at approximately 8 p.m., while Sabir and his other friends were celebrating his birthday near a school in the Shivaji Nagar area, the accused assaulted Sabir and got into a fight. They repeatedly attacked Sabir with a weapon with a sharp edge, causing him serious injuries.

The official stated that the two other accused were arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 302 (murder), while the minor boys were sent to a correctional facility. The case is currently the subject of an investigation.
