The Union Ministry of Culture on Tuesday declared that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's Birth Anniversary is to be celebrated as 'Parakram Divas' every year. The Government announced that in order to commemorate the great freedom fighter's noble deeds and altruistic service for his nation, every year the Azaad Hind Sarkar's birthday to be marked as 'Parakram Divas'.

In the release, the Government stated, "The people of India fondly remember Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's unparalleled contribution to this great nation in his 125th birth anniversary. The Government of India has decided to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary year of Netaji beginning from January 2021 in a befitting manner at the national and international level. Now, in order to honour and remember Netaji's indomitable spirit and selfless service to the nation, the Government of India has decided to celebrate his birthday on the day of January every year as 'PARAKRAM DIWAS" to inspire people of this country, especially the youth, to act with fortitude in the face of adversity as Netaji did, and to infuse in them a spirit of patriotic fervour."

Subhas Chandra Bose's grandnephew, Chandra Kumar Bose highly appreciated the Government's decision but also suggested that it would have been much apt if the significant day was declared as 'Deshprem Divas'. He said to ANI, "Netaji was India's liberator. We welcome the announcement but people have been celebrating January 23 as 'Deshprem Diwas'. It would've been more appropriate, had the government announced it as 'Deshprem Diwas' but we're happy about the announcement,"
