Odisha: DRDO Successfully Test-Fired Ballistic Missile ‘Agni Prime’

BHUBANESWAR: The DRDO successfully flight tested the new generation ballistic missile Agni Prime on June 7th at around 7:30 p.m. from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. During the flying test, all objectives were met with success.

After three successful developmental testing of the Agni Prime missile, the Users executed the first pre-induction night launch, proving the system's accuracy and dependability. A variety of Range Instrumentation, including as Radar, Telemetry, and Electro Optical Tracking Systems, were deployed at various sites, including two downrange ships at the terminal point, to record flight data covering the vehicle's complete trajectory.

The ballistic missile test flight was conducted in the presence of senior DRDO and Strategic Forces Command officials. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh thanked DRDO and the Armed Forces on their success, as well as the Agni Prime missile's flawless performance.

Recently , the Indian Navy's frontline guided missile ship INS Mormugao successfully tested a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. According to reports, the missile launch demonstrated the Indian Navy's sea power.

The BrahMos missile has a speed of 2.8 Mach, which is approximately three times the speed of sound. India also exports BrahMos missiles. In January 2022, India's BrahMos Aerospace and the Philippines signed a $375 million contract for the Philippine Marines to acquire three batteries of the BrahMos cruise missile, bolstering India's efforts to become a major defence hardware exporter.
