Oxford Dictionaries Confirms Non-Existence of Word Like “Modilie” After Rahul Gandhi’s Tweet

Guwahati: An official handle of Oxford Dictionaries has confirmed that word like “Modilie” does not exist in its dictionary which was said by Congress President Rahul Gandhi that there is a new word in the English Dictionary called ‘Modilie’.

In a tweet @OxfordWords on Thursday, it said that they cannot confirm the image showing the entry ‘Modilie is fake and does not exist in any of their Oxford Dictionaries. On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi tweeted where he sent a photo which looked like the page of a word entry on the Oxford Living Dictionaries website but had the word removed from it. The photo which was tweeted by the Congress President shows that the entry ‘Modilie’ was described as a mass noun which can be used to describe someone who lies. The example of the word has been cited as ‘he is such a Modiliar, he just keeps modilying, look look, there goes a Modiliar.

In another tweet on Thursday, Gandhi said, “Modilie is a new word that’s become popular worldwide. Now there’s even a website that catalogues the best Modilies linking to a website- modilies.in. People in the Congress said that the site was a creation of the Congress social media team, with several of its members tweeting about it in the last few weeks.”

However, Gandhi’s tweet remains unconfirmed whether the tweet was sent by himself or by others from the social media team did so on his behalf. The BJP used the tweet of Oxford Dictionaries to take a dig at its rival.

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya tweeted, “Slapped” saying that Gandhi has been accusing Modi of speaking lies on various issues including the Rafale jet deal.

One of the definitions inside the screenshot shared by Gandhi in his tweet to constantly modify the truth says that a play on words using the Prime Minister’s surname to indicate what the Congress has termed his habit of not speaking the truth on a number of issues.
