NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of India's 77th Independence Day on Tuesday said peace is the only solution for the Manipur issue and the Centre is undertaking all efforts to realise the same.
"Path for solution in Manipur will be found through peace. The Centre is making all efforts for a solution and will continue to do so," PM Modi said.
PM Modi said this while addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on India's 77th Independence Day.
It was the 10th consecutive Independence Day that the Prime Minister delivered his speech from the iconic monument where the event is organized every year.
The Prime Minister appealed for peace in strife-torn Manipur, while stressing that people across the country stand with the people of the northeast state. Manipur has been witnessing ethnic violence since May 3.
"The whole country stands with the people of Manipur. Peace is the only way to resolve all disputes. The Centre and the Manipur government are making every effort to ensure that peace returns to the state at the earliest," PM Modi added.
This was his last Independence Day speech before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, and the Prime Minister began it by addressing the countrymen as 'parivaarjan' (family members). He said that India is marching ahead with new confidence and resolve. He stressed that the decisions, sacrifices made in this period will impact the next 1,000 years.
PM Modi also said that India's biggest capability is trust, mainly the people's trust in the government, ushering in the country's bright future and world's trust in India. Indian people's capabilities are evident in shaping a changing world, he added.
He also emphasized that in 2014, it was decided by the people that to take country forward, a stable and strong government is needed. His govt has India was freed from era of instability, he underlined. PM Modi further said that 'Nation First' formed the bedrock of his govt’s policies, with the people forming such govt in 2014 and 2019 that gave him strength to pull off reforms.
It was underscored by PM Modi that the government's every moment, every rupee was going towards welfare of citizens, with the govt and citizens united with spirit of 'nation first'.
He informed that in five years, over 13.5 crore poor people came out of poverty to become part of the country’s neo-middle and middle classes.
He said it is 'Modi's guarantee' that India will become 3rd largest global economy in next 5 years.
India's rise and development has resulted in renewed global confidence in the country, Modi said. “Ball in our court and we should not let go of opportunity; no ifs and buts on anyone's mind about India's capabilities”, he added.
“We have to live with mantra of 'shreshtha Bharat' to make India developed by 2047. We have to address regional aspirations; India will not be developed if even one part is lagging behind. I am confident that in 2047 when India marks 100 years of its independence, it will be a developed nation” he stressed.
In next 25 years we have to move forward with message of unity, PM Modi said, adding that there would be efforts to strengthen country's unity.
