PM Modi to Lay Foundation Stone for Varanasi Cricket Stadium and Address Women's Rally

VARANASI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone for an international cricket stadium on Saturday. This remarkable initiative will mark yet another milestone in the Prime Minister's parliamentary constituency. During his visit, PM Modi will also address a rally of women supporters and discuss the recently passed women's reservation bill in Parliament.

According to information from the news repports, Prime Minister Modi will preside over the groundbreaking ceremony of the cricket stadium, which is located in Ganjari. Following this event, he will convene a rally attended by over 5,000 women at the Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, focusing on the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam 2023 (Women's Empowerment Act).

Later in the day, Prime Minister Modi will make his way to the Rudraksh Centre, where he will inaugurate 16 newly constructed Atal Residential Schools. These schools are an essential part of the government's efforts to enhance educational opportunities in the region.

Notably, the event will witness the presence of key figures from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), including President Roger Binny, Vice President Rajiv Shukla, and Secretary Jay Shah. This groundbreaking ceremony signifies a significant milestone for Uttar Pradesh, as Varanasi's international cricket stadium will become the third such facility in the state, joining the ranks of Kanpur and Lucknow.

The construction of this grand stadium comes at an estimated cost of Rs 330 crore, with the land itself valued at Rs 121 crore. Once completed, it will have the capacity to accommodate nearly 30,000 spectators at any given time, making it a substantial addition to the city's infrastructure. The stadium's design promises to be a visual spectacle, with crescent-shaped roof covers, floodlights resembling a trident, and patterns inspired by bel leaves, as well as a structure shaped like a 'damru.'

The spectators' gallery will be designed to resemble the steps of the iconic ghats of Varanasi, further connecting the stadium to the rich heritage and traditions of the city.Located in the Rajatalab area near the Ring Road, this international cricket stadium is on track to be completed by December 2025, as per the official press statement. It is expected that this state-of-the-art sporting facility will not only boost Varanasi's prominence but also contribute to the overall development and entertainment options available in the region.
