PM Modi, Union Ministers Pay Tributes on Pulwama Attack Anniversary

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tribute to CRPF personnel killed in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack.

"No Indian can forget this day. Two years ago, the Pulwama attack happened. We pay homage to all martyrs we lost in that attack. We are proud of our security forces. Their bravery will continue to inspire generations," he said.

The Prime Minister was speaking at a ceremony in Chennai. PM Modi was in Chennai for the inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony of several key projects in the poll-bound state of Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh, Union home minister Amit Shah, vice president M. Venkaiah Naidu, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several others also paid tribute to the martyred CRPF soldiers.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted, "I pay homage to those brave @crpfindia personnel who sacrificed their lives in 2019 Pulwama terror attack. India will never forget their service to the nation and their supreme sacrifice. We continue to stand with their families, who had to suffer due to this attack."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah too took to Twitter to pay his respects to the slain CRPF personnel. He wrote, "I bow down to the brave martyrs who lost their lives in the gruesome Pulwama attack on this day in 2019. India will never forget their exceptional courage and supreme sacrifice."

Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu also paid his respects. He wrote, "I join the nation in paying my humble tributes to the CRPF personnel who were martyred in the dastardly Pulwama terror attack. The grateful nation will always remember their patriotism & supreme sacrifice. My solidarity with the families who lost their loved ones in the attack."

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, remembering the soldiers martyred in Pulwama wrote, "Tribute to the brave soldiers, who died in the Pulwama terror attack. A tribute to their families as the country owes you."

On February 14, 2019, 40 soldiers were killed during an attack on a CRPF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district. A Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber slammed a car filled with explosives into a Central Reserve Police Force (CPRF) convoy travelling from Jammu to Srinagar, near Pulwama.

Around 2,500 CRPF personnel were travelling in the convoy of 78 buses when the attack occurred and 40 were killed, making it one of the deadliest terror attacks in India.

In retaliation for the 14th February attack, the Indian Air Force on February 26 carried out multiple attacks at a Jaish terror training camp in Pakistan's Balakot.
