Narendra Modi held a meeting to discuss the COVID-19 surge in India as the country recorded a new daily high in infections with over 2.73 lakh fresh COVID positive cases on Sunday.
The meeting was held on Monday morning after India hit another milestone to report the highest surge in cases ever since last year. As per the reports, this is the second meeting in two days that the PM held a meeting to discuss a multi-pronged strategy to fight COVID-19.
On April 18 (Sunday), PM Modi analysed the COVID situation in
Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, and emphasised the need for vaccination of everyone over 45 years of age.
The Prime Minister emphasised executing "tracking, tracing and testing," by saying this has to be fully followed to check the virus' spread in the same manner the first wave was restrained.
PM Modi also asked the administration to make sure that preventive measures like social distancing and the use of masks and sanitisers are practised.
Earlier, the Prime Minister had talked about the efforts being made by the government to import medical-grade oxygen to ensure a steady supply of oxygen.
According to the Union Health Ministry data, India has recorded 2,73,810 new
COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The highest one-day surge took India's COVID caseload past the 1.5 crore mark. Also, there are 19,29,329 active cases in the country at present while 1,29,53,821 people have recovered from the disease. The death toll is at 1,78,769 and 12,38,52,566 people have been vaccinated so far.
Meanwhile, Delhi has announced lockdown from 10 PM tonight to 5 AM next Monday morning. Delhi registered a big jump in COVID cases on Sunday. Delhi reported 25,462 cases and 161 deaths in the last 24 hours.
