Prices of Commercial LPG Cylinders Slashed by Rs 171.50

NEW DELHI: In a relief for a large number of businesses across the country, the prices of commercial LPG cylinders have been slashed by Rs 171.50 with effect from the first day of May.

After this decrease in price, the cost of a commercial LPG cylinder is Rs 1856.50 in Delhi, Rs 1808.50 in Mumbai and Rs 2021.50 in Chennai as per the reports from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC).

The oil marketing companies backed by the state had previously reduced the prices of the commercial cylinders by Rs 91.50 on the first of April. This makes a total reduction of Rs 263 per unit of a commercial cylinder after the hike of Rs 350.50 per unit in the prices of the commercial cylinders in the month of March.

The 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders are used mainly in eaters, hotels and small production plants and the increase of the prices in March had triggered protests across the country against the policies of the government. It had also triggered the increase in prices of several commodities, especially food and related products.

In the state of Assam, the All Assam Student’ Union organised protests in different parts of the state. Expressing vehement resentment over the issue, the dignitaries of Lakhimpur AASU said that BJP, while not in power, initiated extensive protest programmes across the State against rise in prices of any essential commodity and promised that the party would take immediate measures to control the same. “But the political party left no stone unturned to rise in the amount of almost taxes and tariff along with prices of all commodities,” the organization alleged. During the demonstration led by Lakhimpur district AASU president in charge Khirod Duwarah, and general secretary in charge Haren Saikia, the protestors while holding placards and raising slogans demanded that the government should take immediate steps to control the prices.
