Lucknow: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday turned down heavily on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the aftermath of the shocking gangrape incident in Hathras and demanded him to tender his resignation. The senior Congress leader said that Yodi has "no moral right" to continue in the post following allegations by the victim's kin that police forced them to conduct her last rites.

The 20-year-old Dalit woman who succumbed to her injuries at New Delhi's Safdarjung hospital, was cremated at around 3 am on Wednesday. The girl's family has alleged that the Hathras police urged them to conduct the last rites in the dead of the night. However, the local administration has denied these allegations, and said that the cremation was done as per the "wishes of the family."

Priyanka Gandhi, taking potshots at Yogi Adityanath in a series of tweets, claimed that she was on the phone with the Hathras victim's father when he was informed that his daughter had passed away and she "heard him cry out in despair."

"He had just been telling me that all he wanted was justice for his child. Last night the victim's father was robbed of the chance to take his daughter home for the last time and perform her last rites," Gandhi tweeted.

Tagging Adityanath in a tweet, Priyanka Gandhi said, "RESIGN. Instead of protecting the victim and her family, your government became complicit in depriving her of every single human right, even in death."

In another tweet, Gandhi alleged that the Uttar Pradesh administration "forcibly" cremated the woman in spite of the victim's requests. Gandhi claimed that the Yogi-led government did not provide her timely treatment when she was attacked.

"After her death, the government took away the right of the family to perform the last rites of their daughter and did not respect the deceased," Gandhi charged.

The Dalit woman was reportedly raped on September 14 when had gone to the fields with her mother. When locals eventually found the victim, she was in a badly injured state, her tongue cut as she had bit it while being strangled by the accused.

The victim was first admitted to Aligarh Muslim University's Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, and then shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Monday when her condition turned critical.
