Guwahati: The process of filing the nominations for the presidential elections began on Wednesday after Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a notification.

The presidential election will be conducted on July 18 and the last day of filing the nominations is June 29, while the scrutiny of papers will take place on June 30.

The 2nd of July will be the last date for withdrawing from the electoral battle and the results will be declared publicly on July 21.

The office term of the incumbent president is ending on July 24.

The president is elected by the electoral college members from the elected members of both the houses and elected members of legislative assemblies of all states, NCT Delhi and the UT Puducherry.

The nominated members of one of the houses or legislative assemblies of the states are entitled to the electoral college and thus, are not allowed to take part in the election. Likewise, legislative council members are also not allowed as electors in the presidential election.

After the vote is taken in the parliament house and in the state legislative assemblies, the votes are counted in the capital, NCT Delhi.
