Puducherry Man Posts on Facebook, "Will Kill PM Modi for Rs 5 Cr", Arrested

PUDUCHERRY: A 43-year-old man from Puducherry was arrested after he made a Facebook post saying he is ready to kill the Prime Minister of India if paid Rs 5 crore.

The man has reportedly been identified as Sathyanandam, a resident of Aryankuppam village, near Puducherry.

Sathyanandam, who is a real estate businessman was arrested on Thursday and produced before a local court which remanded him to judicial custody.

According to reports, the Facebook post was reported to the police by one Thangadurai, who noticed the Facebook post by 'Sathya Sathya' on Thursday evening which read, "Modiye poda thayar Rs.5 crore kodukka Yaar thayaar" (Ready to kill Modi who is ready to pay Rs.5 crore). He informed the police who traced the Facebook account of the man and arrested him.

The accused has reportedly also made several posts dishonouring other leaders, in an attempt to set off communal violence.

He has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections 505 (1) and 505 (2) for making statement conducing to public mischief and statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill- will between classes.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit West Bengal and Assam on Sunday for the launch of several projects. He will also address public rallies in the two states that will hold elections in a few months.

The Prime Minister's Office informed that Prime Minister Modi will launch a programme for state highways and major district roads in Assam and key infrastructure projects at Haldia in West Bengal. PM Modi will launch "Asom Mala", which is aimed at helping improve the state highways and major district roads network in the state.

PM Modi will inaugurate a liquefied petroleum gas import terminal in West Bengal built by the state-run Bharat Petroleum that has been constructed at an investment of around ₹ 1,100 crore and has a capacity of 1 million metric tonnes per year.

He will also inaugurate the 348-km Dobhi-Durgapur natural gas pipeline section, which is part of the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga Project. PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of the second Catalytic-Iso-dewaxing unit of the Haldia refinery of the Indian Oil Corporation as well.
