NEW DELHI: At least 40 CRPF members lost their lives on this day in 2019 after a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-packed car into the security force convoy. The terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed, which is based in Bahawalpur and is led by Masood Azhar, was responsible for the attack.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the 40 members of the Central Reserve Police Force who perished in the terror assault in Pulwama three years prior. “Remembering our valorous heroes who we lost on this day in Pulwama. We will never forget their supreme sacrifice. Their courage motivates us to build a strong and developed India”, a tweet read by PM Modi.
By conducting airstrikes on Jaba Top in Balakot and destroying Jaish's terror training facilities, India exacted revenge for the Pulwama terrorist assault. Although the precise number of terrorists killed in the airstrikes is unknown, high-resolution pictures of the training camp taken a day prior to the raids revealed more than 300 religious radicals there.
Masood Azhar has been free for four years and is still being protected by the Pakistani deep state. His brother Mohiuddin Aurangzeb Alamgir alias Ammar Alvi was labelled a terrorist by the Center last year in accordance with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Alvi, a prominent Jaish leader, took part in the terror attack in Pulwama.
Alvi, 39, and his brothers Masood Azhar and Abdul Rauf Asghar were already charged by the NIA in August 2020. Umar Farooq, their nephew who was dispatched to J&K to carry out the attack, has also been identified by the agency. Officials conducting the investigation claim that Alvi frequently instructed his nephew over the phone regarding the Pulwama plan.
