New Delhi: Around 125 passengers of a flight from Italy tested positive for COVID-19 after landing in Punjab's Amritsar this afternoon.

Reportedly, there were 179 passengers, including 19 children, on the chartered flight from Milan that arrived in Amritsar around 1:30 PM.

According to reports, the flight took a halt at Tbilisi (Georgia) due to a technical glitch. The flight is operated by EuroAtlantic Airways which is a Portuguese company.

The entire infected passenger now will be sent to institutional quarantine.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, India has reported 90,928 new cases as there has been a surge in omicron cases. The country's active caseload currently stands at 2,85,401.

On the other hand, the country on Thursday also saw the biggest single-day jump of 495 Omicron cases, taking the total number of infections of the new variant of coronavirus to 2,630.
