Queen Elizabeth II Death: India Observes A Day of State Mourning Today

New Delhi: One-day state mourning was observed across India on Sunday as mark of respect to UK's Queen Elizabeth II who passed away on Thursday.

At the same time, the search engine Google is also mourning on the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The colored Google has become 'colourless' in honour of the late Queen. Google appears gray today, September 11, on the day of state mourning declared in the country, marking a silent tribute.

The colored looking Google appears to be simple and gray. Google CEO Sundar Pichai has also expressed his condolences while paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in Britain as ruled for 70 years, died on Thursday, 8 September 2022 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, at the age of 96.

The Queen's funeral will take place 10 days after her death. Before this, her coffin would be carried by a ceremonial route from London to Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster five days after his death.

The day of the funeral will be a day of national mourning, with a service at Westminster Abbey and a two-minute silence in the afternoon across the UK. Following the funeral, the Queen will be buried in the King George VI Memorial Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Significantly, on the day of state mourning, the national flag is flown at half-mast at all buildings across the country where the national flag is flown regularly.

The first state mourning in India was declared after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi. Over time, many changes were made in the rule of state mourning. Now, in the case of other dignitaries also, the Center can declare state mourning by issuing special instructions. Along with this, state mourning can also be declared in the time of any major disaster in the country.
