Rahul Gandhi Wishes PM Modi 'Happy World Theatre Day'

Guwahati: Congress President Rahul Gandhi wished Prime Minister Narendra Modi 'Happy World Theatre Day' shortly after the Prime Minister announced the success of India's Mission Shakti while addressing the nation today.

In a tweet, Rahul Gandhi said, Well done Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), extremely proud of your work. I would also like to wish the Prime Minister a very happy World Theatre Day."

Hitting back at Gandhi's tweet, Union Minister Arun Jaitley said, "The lower they go, the stronger we emerge."

The Prime Minister today said that India is a space superpower while addressing the nation.

The PM said that India has shot down an LEO satellite by an anti-satellite missile which was conducted under Mission Shakti which was completed in three minutes.

In his address, he said that India has entered its name as an elite space power. Modi also said that an anti-satellite weapon, A-SAT was successfully targeted a live satellite on a low earth orbit.

Modi further said that Mission Shakti is an important step towards securing India's safety, economic growth and technological advancement. Through his speech, Modi also congratulated DRDO scientists associated with Mission Shakti. "Our scientists have destroyed a satellite in low earth orbit as a part of pre-planned test," Modi said.

Jaitley also attacked the opposition for what he dubbed 'clerical objections' and said that India's nuclear programme was on 365 days whether there is an election or not.

World Theatre Day was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI). It is celebrated annually on March 27 by ITI Centres and the international theatre community. Various national and international theatre events are organized to mark this occasion. One of the most important of these is the circulation of the World Theatre Day International Message through which at the invitation of ITI, a figure of world stature shares his or her reflections on the theme of Theatre and a Culture of Peace.

The first World Theatre Day International Message was written by Jean Cocteau (France) in 1962. It was first in Helsinki, and then in Vienna at the 9th World Congress of the ITI in June 1961 that President Arvi Kivimaa proposed on behalf of the Finnish Centre of the International Theatre Institute that a World Theatre Day be instituted. The proposal, backed by the Scandinavian centres, was carried with acclamation.
