Rajya Sabha Chairman Suspends AAP MP Sanjay Singh for Unruly Behavior Amid Opposition's Manipur Protest

NEW DELHI: In a recent development during the ongoing monsoon session of parliament, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar took a stringent step by suspending Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Member of Parliament (MP) Sanjay Singh. The suspension came in response to Singh's repeated violations of the chair's directives, culminating in an unruly protest near the Chairman's podium.

The suspension incident took place amid a heated opposition protest over the Manipur issue, which demanded the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for discussion. On this occasion, Singh, a prominent member of the AAP, marched towards the Chairman's podium and began vociferously shouting slogans, urging a discussion on the Manipur matter. The disruption led to Piyush Goyal, the leader of the house, moving a motion to suspend Singh for the remainder of the monsoon session due to his disruptive behavior. The motion was subsequently adopted by the house through a voice vote.

Consequently, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar approved the motion, and Sanjay Singh was suspended from the house for the entire duration of the monsoon session. The suspension prompted the house to adjourn until 2 pm as opposition members continued to create uproar in response to the Chairman's decision.

Commenting on Sanjay Singh's suspension, Delhi Health Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj expressed the party's stance. He stated that if Singh was being suspended for raising his voice for the truth, the party would not be dismayed. The AAP's legal team would investigate the matter, though the party regarded the suspension as an unfortunate occurrence.

In a show of solidarity, all opposition members present during the Business Advisory Committee meeting in Rajya Sabha walked out in protest against Sanjay Singh's suspension. The opposition members are pushing for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's presence in the house to address the Manipur issue, escalating tensions in the parliamentary proceedings.

The monsoon session of parliament, which commenced on July 24, is scheduled to conclude on August 15. As the political climate intensifies with opposing viewpoints and demands, the suspension of AAP's MP Sanjay Singh remains a prominent point of contention, raising questions about the limits of parliamentary conduct and the avenues for discussion and debate on crucial national issues.
