PATNA: According to police officials, a total of 77 people have been detained after a new altercation broke out following violence during Ram Navami celebrations in the state on Sunday.

The police officers further advised the populace to uphold peace and disregard rumour. Regarding recent violence in Biharsharif, Nalanda Police stated: "A total of 77 persons have been arrested to date.  Severe action is being taken against the miscreants. Everyone is advised to preserve peace and not give regard to misinformation." A person who died during the incident had their mortal remains transported for a post-mortem, according to information provided earlier in the day by Biharsharif's Superintendent of Police, Ashok Mishra.

“ More than 50 people were detained in raids last night; 8 FIRs have so far been filed, and more forces have been deployed. A body (of a person who died in fresh violence last night) has been sent for post-mortem," he said.

While the SP stated that more than 50 individuals had been detained, Nalanda District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar stated that more than 80 individuals had been detained and added that things are currently calm. “The situation is currently calm; Section 144 is in effect, but the curfew hasn't been enforced. Many miscreants were identified, and more than 80 people have been arrested in this connection so far”, he said.

Fresh violence erupted in 2-3 places in Biharsharif last night. On March 31, there were reports of fights in Sasaram and Biharsharif in Nalanda. Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, claimed earlier in the day that the incidences are not "natural" and that someone may have intentionally done something "unnatural" to disturb the peace.

The Chief Minister denied there was a law and order issue in the state and said the BJP was to blame for Federal Home Minister Amit Shah cancelling his trip to Sasaram after the confrontations. In response to the incident, Nitish Kumar told the media that he had given the go-ahead for an investigation and had asked the authorities to identify those responsible. Asserting that such events are not "natural" in Bihar, the chief minister believed there was an outside influence behind the riots.
