Raped in UP, victim travels to Maharashtra to file case

Nagpur: A 22-year-old woman travelled 800 km to file a rape case against a man. On Monday, the police informed that a Nepalese woman travelled from Lucknow to Nagpur, Maharashtra to file the case as the man warned her against approaching the police regarding the alleged offence.

The heinous incident took place in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow. The victim managed to escape and reached Nagpur on September 30. With the help of a Nepalese friend, she lodged a zero First Information Report (FIR) against the man.

A zero FIR can be filed in any police station, which can be later transferred to the respective police station having competent jurisdiction.

According to reports, the woman came from Nepal to India in 2018 for a job. She was staying with a woman friend in a rented flat in Lucknow. She was introduced to the accused, Pravin Rajpal Yadav, by her friend on a video call. The accused, who is a native of Lucknow worked as a software engineer in Dubai.

According to the victim, she kept an amount of ₹ 1.5 lakh with her friend. When she asked for it, her friend did not return the money instead started harassing her. The victim told about the same to Yadav, who booked a room for her in a hotel in Lucknow, asking her to shift there, informed the police. After a few days, the accused came to Lucknow and met her at the hotel. He allegedly drugged her and raped her at the hotel.

The accused also took objectionable photographs and videos of the victim. The police said that the accused again took her to a friend's place, allegedly drugged her again, and raped her. He later on uploaded the victim's photos on social media accounts and threatened her to make it viral if she approaches the police.

The officials said that she lodged a complaint against Yadav and the victim's woman friend from Lucknow at Koradi police station. On Saturday, the police lodged a zero FIR against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The victim and the police officials along with a cover letter of the Nagpur DCP and the case papers went to Lucknow on Sunday night to register the case with Chinhat Police in Lucknow.
