Republic Day 2021: ITBP Personnel Hoist National Flag at 17,000 Feet in Ladakh

ITBP personnel shared a video on Twitter of them celebrating the 72nd Republic Day by hoisting the national flag, the video has since gone viral.

Ladakh: On the occasion of India's 72nd Republic Day, The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) posted a special video to celebrate Republic Day. The video shows the soldiers braving the freezing sub-zero temperatures and unwelcoming conditions to hoist the national flag at Ladakh.

The nine ITBP personnel, including men and women, paraded on a frozen lake with the Indian tricolour early on Tuesday morning as the temperature recorded minus 25 degrees Celsius. The personnel, also referred to as the ITBP Himveers, were seen hoisting the flag at 17,000 feet above the sea level, chanting 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'.

The clip was shared on the official ITBP Twitter handle with the caption, "Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) men and women with the national flag at Ladakh heights celebrating #Republic Day 2021 at 17,000 feet. Temperature is minus 25 degree Celsius."

The video clip was shared a few hours ago and has since garnered thousands of views. Twitterverse flooded the comments with wishes and praise for the ITBP personnel. Many also wished them a Happy Republic Day with pictures of the National flag.

The K9 dog squad of ITBP has been delegated with the task to provide security to the Rajpath area for the Republic Day parade. The squad includes dog breeds like Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd.

ITBP, the specialised mountain force guards the 3,488 km border from Ladakh's Karakoram Pass to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh.

17 Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel were also awarded police service medals in various categories on Monday. Two officers, Assistant Commandant Anurag Kumar Singh and Deputy Commandant Rajesh Kumar Luthra were awarded police medals for gallantry, three with the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and 12 with police medals for Meritorious Service.

The ITBP division is also a part of the Republic Day Parade in Delhi.
