Mumbai: The Republic TV TRP Case had its hearing in the Bombay High Court on Friday. The Bombay HC witnessed dramatic scenes as the senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Harish Salve exchanged words over the appearance of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the matter.

On Friday, the HC was hearing the petitions which were filed by the company who owns the Republic TV, ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd. The writ petitions challenged the investigation of the Mumbai Police in TRP rating cases of private news channels. The company owning Republic TV filed an application to bring in the ED as an additional respondent to the petition.

Harish Salve, the advocate for the ARG Outlier Media Pvt Ltd, said that if the findings of the ED in the TRP case are different from Mumbai Police, it will mean that the latter is being hostile against the Republic TV and its Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami.

However, the senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who was appearing for Mumbai Police strongly opposed the appearance of ED in the case. Sibal said that there is no role for ED in this case. He further added that Salve cannot invite ED to appear. When Anil Singh, the additional solicitor general sought to make a submission for ED, Sibal objected. He said that he strongly opposes the appearance of ED. He further questioned on his enthusiasm being more apparent. Sibal further responded to Salve saying that he knows the dishonesty of Salve and honesty of ED.

However, the case was turned around as Salve said that Sibal was calling a Union agency dishonest. Although Sibal mentioned Salve as dishonest, Salve kept on saying that a state (Maharashtra) called a Union agency dishonest. The further hearing of the case is scheduled on January 29. At first, the case was posted to January 22, however, due to certain difficulties of Salve, the case was postponed to January 29.
