Second Wave of COVID-19 Claim Lives of 270 Doctors in India: Top Medical Body

In the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic, 270 doctors died as a result of COVID-19 infection, according to the Indian Medical Association (IMA). 

Former IMA president Dr. KK Aggarwal, who died on Monday from the deadly COVID-19 virus, is among the doctors who have lost their lives fighting this deadly infectious disease. 

With 78 medical practitioners succumbing to the coronavirus infection, the state of Bihar saw the maximum fatalities followed by Uttar Pradesh with 37, Delhi with 29, and Andhra Pradesh with 22 cases of COVID-induced fatalities of medical practitioners.  

According to the COVID-19 registry of the Indian Medical Association, 748 doctors succumbed to the outbreak of the coronavirus infection. 

"Last year, 748 doctors across India succumbed to COVID-19, while in the current wave, in a short period, we have lost 270 doctors," the IMA said.

"The second wave of the pandemic is turning out to be extremely fatal for all and especially for the healthcare workers who are at the forefront," IMA president Dr. JA Jayalal said.

The unfortunate demise of our frontline COVID-19 warriors, who have been relentless in the fight against this deadly infectious virus, should give us an insight into the sacrifice they must make and the hardship they must endure in order to keep us safe. To make sure that the sacrifices of our heroes don't go in vain, the least we can do is inculcate COVID-19 friendly behaviour by adhering to the COVID-19 rules and regulations. To break the chain of transmission of this deadly virus, we as a community must collectively pull up our socks, take all appropriate precautions, and work together with our frontline COVID-19 warriors in the fight against this deadly virus that has taken the lives of millions of people around the world. 

India set a new global record with 4,529 Covid patients dying in the last 24 hours, surpassing the highest daily death rate recorded by the United States in January (4,475). With the addition of 2.67 lakh new cases, India's overall case count has risen to 2.54 crore.
