Soldier, militant killed in gun battle in Kashmir's Pulwama

Guwahati: A soldier was martyred in a gunbattle that broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Wednesday, officials said.

Along with the soldier, an unidentified militant was also gunned down. Another jawan was also injured in the gunfight.

It has been reported that security forces launched a search operation in an orchard in Kamrazipora village of Pulwama in the early hours of the day after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there.

The officials informed that the initial search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire, injuring two soldiers.

As per reports, the injured security personnel were rushed to an Army hospital, where one of them succumbed to his injuries.

One militant was also killed in the gunfight, the officials stated.

Notably, a rifle and a few grenades were recovered from the encounter site.

It is to be mentioned that the identity and affiliation of the slain militant is being ascertained.
