Odisha:

Due to the unprecedented surge in the cases of the novel coronavirus making India the second-worst COVID-19 affected country in the world, the states in India have either imposed complete or partial lockdown, in an attempt to break the chain of transmission of the deadly infectious disease.

Out of the many businesses that have been adversely affected due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the liquor industry is one of them. Since the liquor business is a generator of massive amounts of capital thanks to its enormous market, the government of Odisha has decided to directly deliver alcohol to the homes of its consumer.

The food delivery behemoths, Swiggy and Zomato, have been tasked with the delivery of alcohol directly to the homes of its consumer.

The Khorda district administration has issued a notice permitting alcohol to be delivered online. Food delivery services such as Swiggy and Zomato, as well as other delivery boys, would be used to make the deliveries. As per the order, the deliveries will be made between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

However, delivery of alcohol will be prohibited in the containment zones. On Saturday and Sunday, the delivery won't be available.

The delivery person will be carrying an I-card provided by the retailer as well as an invoice that will serve as a movement pass. While delivering the alcohol, all delivery boys will have to mandatorily adhere to the social distance rules.

Users can place their orders online from orbc.co.in. In addition to Swiggy and Zomato, the government has partnered with 17 other food delivery companies for this project. The minimum service charge will be Rs. 100 (for orders under Rs. 1000) and will increase to Rs. 100 for orders over Rs. 1000. (for orders between Rs. 4501-5000).
