CHENNAI: In a shocking incident in Tamil Nadu, a 12-year-old boy allegedly impregnated a 17-year-old girl who gave birth to a baby.
The incident took place in the Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu as informed by police sources.
On Thursday 22 April, the matter came to light and police arrested the accused after the girl delivered a baby.
The Thanjavur All Women Police team detained the boy on Thursday for committing the heinous crime. The minor boy has been booked by Thanjavur All Women Police force under the provisions of the POCSO (Protection from Sexual Offences) Act.
According to the police, the Government Rajah Mirasudar Hospital in Thanjavur informed about a 17-year-old girl giving birth to a baby girl a few days ago.
Police investigated the matter and it was revealed that the girl was in a relationship with the 12-year-old boy since the last few years.
The girl underwent a police interrogation following which she has informed about her relationship with the teen boy. Based on the girl's statement the accused has been arrested.
However, police suspect the involvement of some other persons in the case and have been investigating thoroughly.
As per sources, the girl and the accused are both school dropouts and were residing in the same locality in Thanjavur.
The girl suffered stomach pain and was taken to the hospital where the doctors who examined her found that she is already 9 months pregnant. She gave birth to her baby on the same day after being admitted to the hospital.
Meanwhile, the accused boy has been sent to a juvenile home in Thanjavur of Tamil Nadu.
According to a report quoting police inspector Ravimathi, the police have decided to ascertain the age of the accused boy through a DNA test and other scientific methods.
The police inspector also informed that the parents of the girl ignored her condition and pregnancy till she delivered the child.
