Thane: A
couple threw acid on a helpless stray dog in Thane, Maharashtra.
According to a media report, the couple was troubled by
the dog's presence and allegedly throws acid on it and the dog lost its front
legs and ears due to the brutality of a couple.
The accused identified as Qayum Khan and his wife
Afreen.
Meet Ashar, an activist of People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals(PETA) India said, He immediately contacted a senior official
of Thane Police when he learned about the incident.
The police then booked the accused couple under
relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals (PCA) Act, 1960 and, Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
The dog was then treated by the animal NGO of Nashik and the canine was also adopted by the
NGO founder Sharanya Shetty.
Ashar said ."PETA India commends the efforts of
the Thane (rural) police and thanks to them for their clear message that cruelty
of animals will not be tolerated." He also added that, the cases of
animal cruelty should be brought to the attention of the police to reduce them
and ensure justice served.
