KOCHI: In a curious case of showing respect to a former Army officer, a thief after breaking into his house at Tripunithura near here and seeing an Army cap, suddenly decided not to take away anything and repented. But that did not stop him from enjoying some of the liquor kept in the house.

The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when workers renovating the house saw the front door broken open when they arrived. They were surprised when they saw the thief’s repentance written on the wall. He wrote that he had broken the Seventh Commandment (Thou shalt not steal). I did not know that this house belonged to an Army officer. I saw the Army cap only at the last. Please forgive me, officer, he had added.

In another place, he wrote that before entering this house, he stole money and a bag from a nearby shop and since he has taken the money, the bag and the documents in the bag should be handed back to the owner. However, the thief enjoyed the liquor which he spotted in the ex-Army officer’s house. (IANS)
