Jammu and Kashmir: Three Army
soldiers and one BSF jawan were killed on Sunday during a failed infiltration
bid by the ultras along the Line of Contro(LOC) in Kupwara district of Jammu
and Kashmir. Three terrorists were also killed in the anti-terror operation.
Defense spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said "A BSF patrol noticed suspicious
movement of unidentified persons near the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System
about 3.5 km from the LoC at Machil Sector on night 7-8 November. Security
forces have seized a huge amount of arms and explosives from the executed
terrorists."
The encounter began in the wee hours at 1 am last night and the
firefight ended at 4 am when more Army forces rushed by the valley-based Chinar
Corps to the area and tracked movement of terrorists by surveillance devices.
A BSF soldier was martyred and a terrorist gunned down during the
initial encounter and two Army soldiers were critically injured and have taken
to the military hospital for immediate treatment.
The firefight was re-established again at 10.20 am when a heavy fire was
fired by the Army search parties about 1.5 km away from the LoC.
In the ensuing firefight, 2 more terrorists were killed, but 3 Army
soldiers also laid their life in the line of duty.
The joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Border Security
Force (BSF).
The operation is in progress and further updates are awaited, the
spokesperson said.
