CHENNAI: Two Tamil Nadu government physicians were arrested on suspicion of raping a coworker while in quarantine at a private hotel.

S. Vetriselvan (35) and N. Mohanraj (28), both government medics, have been identified as the suspects.

As per reports, the suspected physicians were detained and taken into jail on Thursday. The woman said that the perpetrator stormed into her room at midnight when she was alone and raped her in her complaint.

The victim took an extended leave of absence after the event. In October, she returned to duty. A complaint was filed with the Chennai City Police Commissioner by the victim.

On Wednesday, a lawsuit was registered against the defendant at the Flower Bazar police station based on her accusation. "After receiving the notification, we studied the CCTV video of the hotel room and determined that the two physicians had barged into the room where the lady doctor was staying," said Station House Officer at the Flower Bazar police station, according to the newspaper. "Further inquiry is underway," the Station House Officer added.

In a similar heinous crime, a mother from Assam's Charaideo area was raped by two men while going home with her daughter from the hospital.

The event occurred, according to sources, when the victim was coming home from the hospital after testing negative for COVID-19. Notably, the victim, who is a member of a community of tea garden workers who had previously tested positive for COVID-19, was placed in home isolation with her family; but, owing to deteriorating health circumstances, the family was eventually transferred to a neighbouring hospital.

The mother and her daughter were pursued by two men in the Dhudarai region at approximately 7 p.m., who took her to a neighbouring tea garden and raped her; however, the daughter managed to flee and later told surrounding villagers, who discovered the woman in a terrible condition.
